WPDA Dressage & Dressage at Grand Haven After having to cancel the first two competitions on our 2008 schedule due to weather, we finally went to our first show of the season! It was the WPDA and Grand Haven Dressage Show in Jefferson, Ohio. Although the weather was incredibly hot, we had a nice breeze and no rain all weekend. Being the first outing of the year, the horses had to get back into the swing of traveling and working in the show atmosphere. Sean Gatton brought his 6 year old Hanoverian Elliott to the show for some schooling and exposure. They did quite well for their first outing and will compete at First level at the Paxton Summer Classic at the end of the month. Kelly brought her new 5 year old Hanoverian gelding Piazzano to the show and they looked great! Piazzano was still a bit nervous after coming from Verden and Kelly decided to wait. She wants to make sure that his first time down centerline will be a great experience! Kelly has plans to compete him at the Paxton show at the end of the month as well. We all look forward to his debut! Jackie Lipton competed her 4 year old GG gelding Phantom at First Level for the first time this weekend and scored a 61%! Judge C. Trentelman really liked Phantom and gave him some great comments! Jackie did a wonderful job competing her young horse in his First Level debut. She is really looking forward to competing him again at Paxton. Fallon and Guilliani had great success in their Second Level debut this weekend. Guilliani won the Second Level Test 1 Open and received 8's on his simple changes, mediums and on his gaits. Judge C. Trentelman commented "Really nice young horse with great potential!". Guilliani will be competing in the FEI 5 Year Old qualifier at Paxton. Great work everyone!!

Paxton Farm Summer Classic With temperatures into the 90's and severe storms throughout the entire weekend, this was quite an interesting competition! Jackie Lipton took her lovely 4 year old Georgian Grande gelding Phantom to the Region II Youth Team Challenge held in conjunction with the open dressage show. They placed 9th in the large Training 4 Qualifying class. Judge Trip Harting stopped Jackie as she rode around the ring before her test and commented on how absolutely beautiful the two looked! He even remembered this great pair from previous competitions and praised Phantom for his wonderful canter. Great work Jackie! On Friday, Fallon and Guilliani won their first FEI 5 Year Old Test with a score of 79.2%! Judge Margaret Freeman loved Guilliani and told Fallon that she has done a great job bringing along such a talented young horse. On Saturday, they scored another great score of 74.6% in front of Judge Trip Harting who commented on Guilliani's three great gaits. He went on to say that he got the feeling that Guilliani was very willing and eager to work and that he believes he will make a great FEI horse in the future. On Sunday, Guilliani placed 4th in the Markel/USEF YH Qualifier. Guilliani was the second highest scoring horse in the entire FEI 5 Year Old division all weekend! None of this would be possible without the continuous help and support from Fallon's mother Kelly. Between dodging the rain to get in a quick schooling session on her own horse, she somehow always found the time to meet Fallon and her students at the schooling ring for their last minute coaching. Thanks and we couldn't do it with out you, Mom! Fallon would also like to thank Sean (photography), Jenny (braiding), Mr. Lipton (video taping and great support) and Smith Brothers Feed for their sponsorship.

NODA Dressage 2008 This show was very interesting and lots of fun for all of us. There were many "firsts" and some really great weather during this weekend. Jackie Lipton competed her 4 year old gelding Phantom in Training 4 Jr/Yr/AA and they won! They qualified for the Region II Finals with a score of over 65%! Judge Sue Madden-Mandas had some very nice comments on this pair and their well ridden test. Later, Jackie and Phantom competed in the First Level Test 1 for only the second time. Although the test started out a little tense, they still scored over a 62% and placed 4th in the large class. Go Phantom! Guilliani was a bit distracted this weekend and unfortunately this showed through during both of his tests. He had some very expressive moments and scored 8's on his medium trots and shoulder-in. Guilliani's "first" for this weekend was that he received his first mark of 1. Hopefully we won't have to many more of these, but many more 8's and 9's! Kelly and Piazzano had some great schooling sessions and Pi is getting much more confident each time he goes to a new competition. Hopefully he will be comfortable enough to compete soon and we are looking forward to his first time down centerline!

Dressage at Grand Haven - August Although this competition is usually one of the hottest shows of the year, the highs this weekend only made it into the upper 60's! The cool weather was topped off with rain and very high winds which made for some "exciting" conditions. On Saturday, Fallon and Guilliani won both the Second 1 and Second 4 Open. Judge Joan Humphrey gave Guilliani many 8's and called him "a handsome boy". Jackie Lipton and Phantom did well despite the weather scoring into the 60's at Training 4 and First 1. On Sunday, the weather became even worse! Jackie went early in the morning and had a very exuberant test! They won the First 1 AA/JrYr test with over a 66% which made the pair Reserve High Score for the entire weekend! After waiting all Summer for their debut, Kelly and Piazzano had a fantastic first time down centerline winning the Second 4 Open with a 62.857%. Judge Fran Dearing remarked that this pair has a great future and really loved the way Piazzano went throughout the test. He received 8's on his simple changes, walk work and the centerlines. Guilliani went as the back to back last two rides of the show and it was a bit nerve wracking for him to go in this situation. He tried very hard despite the rain and the fact that the entire show grounds were being packed up during our tests. He has several "nervous moments", but judge Fran Dearing said he was spectacular! He received many 8's and was quite brave throughout the whole experience. We are all extremely proud of how our horses went this weekend and are looking forward to our next competition! Great work everyone!
Region II Finals & Dressage at Paxton Farm TDD arrived at Paxton Farm early on Tuesday after some major storms and power outages, but as soon as we pulled onto the property the good times began! Kelly brought her two lovely Hanoverian geldings Cary Grant and Piazzano for some great exposure and schooling during this long week of competition. On Thursday, Jackie Lipton was one of the first rides of the show with her beautiful 4 year old GG gelding Phantom. The team competed in the First Level Test 1 Open and received a 65% from judge Marlene Schneider placing them only 2 points from the leader of the class. Later, Fallon took Guilliani through a nice Second Level Test 1 Open and received over a 64% from judge Ida Anderson. On Friday, Jackie and Phantom placed 5th out of 14 with a 66% again only 2 points from the leader! Phantom got 8's for both of his centerlines during this test! On Saturday, Fallon and Guilliani won the Second Level Test of Choice out of 13 competitors! Jackie and Phantom also did great placing second in their first ever outing at First Level Test 2. Congratulations to everyone with Truly Dancing Dressage on this fun, successful last outing of the 2008 competition season! We are all looking very forward to seeing what the 2009 season will bring!

NODA Year End Awards Truly Dancing Dressage came away with some lovely awards for the 2008 show season at the Northern Ohio Dressage Associations Year End Awards Banquet in Independence, Ohio. Mr. Lipton (Jackie and Jenny's dad) was the Edy Ujczo Horse Partnership Trophy recipient for the outstanding help and support that he gives his daughters as well as Kelly and Fallon all year round. Jackie Lipton was named the Grand Haven Series Reserve Champion at Training Level and Overall Champion at First Level with great scores! She also was the Reserve Champion overall for Training Level Jr/Yr and Champion overall for First Level Jr/Yr! We are all very proud of Jackie and Phantom's results and look forward to their continued success in 2009. Fallon and Guilliani were named the Grand Haven Series Champions at Second Level Open and were the Champions overall for Second Level Open. Although Kelly did not compete Piazzano enough to be eligible for year end awards, we all agree that he should be given the "Most Improved" award. With Kelly's wonderful training and patient riding of this talented young horse hopefully he will have a great season at Third Level in 2009. In addition, Kelly, Fallon and Jackie handed out two "special" awards.... Joe Walker (Kelly's husband and Fallon's father) was "crowned" 2008 Schwung Farm Man of the Year for his countless hours of work that he does at our barn during the many weekends we are gone at shows. He stays behind to feed and care for the horses we leave behind and treats them all as if they were his own kids. By the time we arrive back home, all of the fields have been mowed, the arenas are all dragged, the isles have been swept and each stall is spotless. We could not do any of the traveling we do without him. Robert Lipton was "crowned" 2008 Truly Dancing Dressage Man of the Year for coming to every one of the shows we have attended in 2008. His help is indescribable. He has fixed everything from our vehicles to the stalls and is always ready to make an emergency run to the hotel or drug store for whatever we forget (and there is always something!). Check out the NODA website to read the beautiful nomination letter that Jackie wrote about how much her father means to her. It is quite the tear jerker! Congratulations to everyone at TDD and we are looking forward to the 2009 season!!!
